Blogger Box Swap Party

SONY DSC

About a month ago my girl Mo of Curls and Mo tagged me in a tweet about a Blogger Box Swap Party sign up happening over on Keep Sitting Pretty and Melissa Chanel. After clicking the link, I thought “wow what a fun way to mix & mingle with other bloggers and score some cool stuff too!” So I immediately signed up! A few weeks later I got an email from Melissa of Melissa Channel stating that I was chosen as one of the bloggers…I was super excited! This was going to be my first Blogger Box Swap and I couldn’t wait to find out who I was paired up with.

Well about week after receiving my confirmation email, I received an email from Kelly of Keep Sitting Pretty with my Blogger Box Swap buddy’s information. And guess who I paired with??? My girl Mo…I laughed because the entire time I was thinking who coincidental and funny it would be if we had gotten paired up. One, we already know each other via social media and emails. Two, we have been working together for several months as natural hair staff writers for Longing4Length. And three, I like to think of her as one of my virtual BFF’s (if there is even such a term) because she has been super supportive since we virtually met months ago through Bloggers Like Me. Needless to say I was thrilled to be paired with Mo! I immediately started working on her box and you can check out what I sent her here.

I was so excited when I my box from Mo came in the mail, y’all know I opened it immediately! She sent me some awesome goodies…see for yourself.

Can you say MANICure Monday...Mo good looking out!

I would like to thank Kelly and Melissa for hosting such an awesome Blogger Box Swap Party. I had so much fun participating. And thanks Mo for sending me all the great goodies; I can’t wait to try them all out!

Have you tried any of the products in the box I got from Mo?

Just Another MANICure Monday: Nude Sparkle

MANICure-Monday-Badge-e1353864285351

It’s just another MANICure Monday!!! And I’m thankful just to see another day. I had a pretty decent weekend…I got a chance to see Santa, hang out at Chuck-E-Cheese’s and enjoyed some quality time with my favorite guys roasting marshmallows. The downside, I had envisioned doing some fancy nail art but it didn’t happen. I ended settling with a trusty fav…a neautral color with a pop glitter, nothing special. I wore this combo a lot over the summer but I love it so much that I’m keeping it in rotation.

And this week it’s being hosted over on Effie Lynn’s blog…so head over and check it out!

Just Another MANICure Monday: KISS’n Sonia

MANICure-Monday-Badge-e1353864285351

I sure hope y’all had a fantastic weekend! I didn’t do too much, which is exactly what I had planned especially after such a busy week.

On last Monday, I shared with you my first Just Another MANICure Monday blog hop post and I had so much fun that I decided to do it again this week. I absolutely loved all the mani submissions for last week; they gave me so much inspiration that I kept brainstorming ideas for my nails even though I had a million other things I needed to be doing…smh!

This time around I used the KISS Nail Dress in Shrug. and paired it with one of my favorite polishes by Sonia Kashuk…I like to call this mani KISS’n Sonia. I was inspired by one of the co-host, Effie Lynn of LA Lynn’s, she posted a mani using the KISS Nail Dress a few week ago. This week MiMi of Lipgloss & Binky is hosting Just Another MANICure Monday on her blog, be sure to check it out!

Alaffia Skin Care

Akaffia Skin Care

I had a chance to sample the Alaffia Skin Care Recovery Face Set thanks to the MSB October Pillow Box I posted about here. This was my first time seeing this product line so I decided to do a little reseach…and as we all know Google is your friend lol. Well I was impressed to say the least! Alaffia Skin Care is an amazing company that is doing amazing things. Not only do the offer premium skin care products but they are also “advancing gender equality  and alleviating poverty through the fair trade of hand crafted shea butter.” Now I know that is a mouth full but the Alaffia website provides some awesome information that is definitely worth the read. Now on the Alaffia Skin Care review…

MSB provided 1oz samples of the Alaffia Skin Care Recovery Face Set which consisted of the Recovery Cleanser, Toner and Face Cream. This particular set is designed for individuals with ultra-dry or acne prone skin, which is great for me. I suffer from dry skin and just recently I have been having severe breakouts, so needless to say this set was right on time.

Alaffia Skin Recovery Cleanser – Made with neem and black soap. The African Black Soap “provides a lathering deep yet gentle cleanse without over-drying your skin.” Retails for $13 on My Shade of Brown.

Alaffia Skin Recovery Facial Toner – made with neem and shea leaf. The facial toner is a “soothing oil-balancing toner that provides immediate moisture.” Retails for $13 on My Shade of Brown.

Neem & Shea Leaf Facial Toner

Alaffia Skin Recovery Face Cream – made with neem and shea. The face cream is recommended for those with “skin needing intensive treatment.” Retails for $16 on My Shade of Brown.

Neem & Shea Face Cream

Final Verdict: I must say that I was somewhat impressed with the Alaffia Skin Care products however the scent left something to be desired. I will say though, I absolutely love the facial cleanser and would definitely consider keeping it a part of my daily skin care regimen. After I washed my face with the cleanser my face was left feeling moisturized and clean. Not tight and dry like with most other facial cleansers. I would have to say my least favorite of the set would have to be the face cream, I just couldn’t get past the scent. I only used the face cream at night and the scent remained in my bedroom all night and well into the following day. However my face did feel moisturized in the morning but like I said the scent just lingered too long for me. So the question is would I purchase the whole Alaffia Skin Care Recovery Set in the future? I would have to say no to the whole set but like I said I love the facial cleanser and I definitely would like to keep it in rotation.

If you would like more information about the Alaffia Skin Care products that were included in the October Pillow Box check out My Shade of Brown. And don’t forget that you can score the November Pillow Box for half price by using the code MSBSavvyHW…that way you can try some of these goodies for yourself!

Nailing it for Fall!

It has been busy, busy, busy around here and I finally had a chance to read through some of my favorite magazines. And let me tell you, I’m swooning over all the hot new fashion trends for this fall. I can’t wait to rock some of my fav fall gear but the weather here is still on the warm side. So I guess I will have to wait a few more weeks before I’m able to bust out my blazer. *sigh*

But while I’m waiting I guess I’ll settle for the next best thing…nail polish. While checking out the September issue of Essence I came across the “Nail NOW!” insert (pictured below). It highlighted some the latest nail trends, polishes colors and designs ideas for the fall. And yes, I was inspired. I immediately searched through my nail polish collection (yes, collection…it’s serious) and pulled out some of my favs. Check it out…

Essence Magazine September 2012

I rock these shades all year round. Simple and chic.

Sand Tropez by Essie…recently became my fav.

Chocoholic by Sonia Kashuk

Shades of Grey…lol

Metallics are a must.

My fav red hues. (Please excuse the HUGE 50% off sticker…lol)

As you can see I love nail polish! And its a perfect way to get you in the mood for fall even when the weather is still a little warm. I’m still on the  hunt for a few more neutral shades and the perfect “ox-blood” color. And I have my eye on a few designs I want to try out…if they work out I will definitely be sharing them with y’all!

What’s your fav nail polish for this fall?

“imPRESS Press On Manicure” Review

Hey y’all,

imPRESS Press-On Manicure by Broadway Nails

I recently tried the imPRESS Press on Manicure by Broadway Nails from the Influenster Mom Vox Box mentioned here. Initially I was excited when I saw them included in the Mom Vox Box. But then I was reminded of the press on nails I used to beg my mom for back when I was kid…they sucked and I thought that these would be no different. I figured they would only last me a few hours or a day tops. And I haven’t worn artificial nails of any kind in years so I wasn’t sure what to expect with that. But despite all of the hesitation I decided to give them a go, I mean what could I loose, they were free! Check out my review below…

Product Claims/Details: The imPRESS Press on Manicure features advanced nail technology, you can get a salon-perfect manicure in seconds – simply peel off, press on, and you’re done. There’s no drying, a killer shine and a manicure that lasts up to a week. There are 36 colors and patterns, including trendy brights, classic darks and animal prints to choose from.

Ready to apply.

Pricing/Availability: You can find the imPRESS Press on Manicure at your local all major drugstores, grocery stores and mass retailers. The suggested retail price is $5.99 for colors and $7.99 for patterns. For more details and to score an exclusive coupon check out imPressManicure.com.

First nail done.

Pros: The imPRESS Press on Manicure was super easy to apply. There is no drying time so I was able to put them on and go right to bed. I was really surprised with how well the artificial nails stuck to my natural nails without the use of super glue. While wearing the imPRESS Manicure I was able to all the things I normally do, like wash dishes and clothes, clean up, style my hair and type, etc. without them snagging, popping off or getting in the way. These press on nails were super comfortable and felt like my natural nail. And they were super easy to remove.

The leftovers.

Cons: It was difficult for me to find a perfect fit for my middle and ring fingers, so I felt like those nails looked a little fake. However my mom and a few others said that the nails looked pretty real to them.

The finished product.

Another angle.

Final Verdict: Overall I’m imPRESSed! Now, they aren’t something that I would probably wear on a daily basis but the imPRESS Press on Manicure is definitely a product I will keep on hand for those days when I don’t have the time (or the energy) to do my own nails. They are fun, easy to use and affordable. In fact I liked them so much I’ve already purchased three more.

Have you been imPRESSed yet?

*Disclaimer: Although I received this product for free from Influenster all opinions stated in this review are my own and are based off of my personal experiences. Like always, please research any/all products before purchasing and using.
